In 2019, Sandrine began an 8-month training in Montmorillon (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) to become a dog trainer. She then meets Eden, a senior dog who has always lived on a farm.
«She spent her time in the kennel interspersed with ‘sit, lie down, stay still’ sessions. I found that she had an extremely gentle look, even if she was impressive, remembers our interlocutor, at the end of training, she had a drop in shape which worried me. A few days later, she had an abscess in her thigh.”
As the breeder did not seem to have any intention of incurring veterinary expenses, Sandrine decided to take the reins in hand by adopting the animal, with the approval of her husband. “She accepted very easily, Sandrine told us, from that day on, Eden never left me, she was always by my side. I felt that I had become very important to her.”
Sandrine opened a new door, the one that led her adorable protege to happiness.
“We had the impression of having a 40 kg puppy, remembers our interlocutor, everything was new for her. » During walks, Eden was able to count on her 2 little « sisters », Ydil and Lolita, who helped her gain confidence and enjoy nature.
The female Rottweiler observed the thick vegetation of the forest and the silvery waves of the sea, as well as sniffing myriads of new smells. At home, she tasted a new scent, composed of joy, comfort and hugs. At 10, the dog has finally found meaning in her life. A family life, where love reigns supreme.
«She gave me back a hundredfold what my husband and I gave her, said her benefactress, I’m not saying that everything was simple and that the care, food, etc., were not very expensive. Care, Eden badly needed it. And for good reason! A tumor invited itself without asking anyone’s agreement, and built its nest on his right kidney.
“The ultrasound showed a dark mass, but given her age, the vet advised me not to have her operated. A few days later, she felt unwell. We couldn’t bring ourselves not to try anything. Unfortunately, she did not survive the operation,” explained Sandrine with emotion.
After offering him happy days, the couple was forced to say goodbye to the dog who joined the Garden of Eden. For more than 2 years, Sandrine and her husband adapted their way of life to her advanced age and pampered her like a full member of the family.
«Never before have feel I felt such an emptiness, declared Sandrine, how I would still like to moan because my back hurts when I install her in the car, when she puts water everywhere while drinking, when she loses her hair, when it is necessary to warn the guests that she has flatulence. I would pay dearly for her to still be there. A moving testimony, which sounds like a cry from the heart.
When they enter our home, pets disrupt our daily lives, punctuated by ups and downs. Because we give them a chance and pamper them, our 4-legged friends give us a priceless treasure: a simple, true, deep love. They forever leave their mark on our hearts. Sandrine, who wishes to dissolve the a priori on certain breeds of dogs considered «wicked», is perfectly aware of this.
